Naked for
Skin Cancer
Let's hope we can attribute V's permanent golden color to spray on tanning. The star recently joined with fashion designer Marc Jacobs in an effort to warn people about the dangers of excessive sun exposure. She says: "Since moving to California I have realized how important it is to practice safe sun for myself and to keep my three boys' skin protected as well. Skin cancer is a huge problem and I really wanted to help raise awareness by taking part in Marc's initiative." That initiative includes charity t-shirts that feature a nude Victoria "covered" by the message "PROTECT THE SKIN YOU'RE IN." She joins a list of other celebs and models who are in the buff for the cause- Heidi Klum, Eva Mendes, Travis Barker, Dita von Teese, and Gabriel Aubry. The t-shirts are now on sale for $35 at Marc Jacobs boutiques. All proceeds from the sales go to NYU Medical Center's Interdisciplinary Melanoma Cooperative Group. Posing nude for something is a bold move on Victoria's part, and certainly she knows this will attract attention to both the cause and to herself. I know that she and Marc Jacobs are good friends, and I'm sure that has something to do with her participation. At the same time, Marc is a very high-profile, popular designer. Do you think Victoria would have also agreed to do this for a lesser-known name?

I definitely don't think Victoria Beckham would have agreed to do this for anyone less popular and known than Marc Jacobs. What would she get out of doing it? Is this something that she's getting paid for? I think it's good that she's doing something like this that has a good social cause because, as far as I know, she hasn't done anything of the sort in the past. Hopefully it helps to enhance her image.

I don't think that she would have done it for a less known name. With a lesser label it might have been for the same cause, but there's some tact that can be taken from being associated with a reputable name. Otherwise, she might have just come off a bit trashy for posing in the nude. Also, while I'm not sure how well this product will sell to the usual Marc Jacobs target audience, it should serve to enhance Victoria's image, as Helena mentioned.

I think everyone can agree VB wouldn't be caught dead doing this t-shirt line for Target. She is already a model for Marc Jacobs so this seems like a pretty easy job transition for her. Not only is the Marc Jacobs brand on "her level" but she already has an established relationship with the designer.

I agree that Marc Jacobs is probably the main reason Victoria posed for this cause. Although this is for skin cancer, its interesting that the models have to be nude to pose for the t-shirts. I feel like celebrities all too often use sex to sell products-its a shame that the marketing ploys Americans use the most involve less and less clothing. Celebs like Victoria who obviously has a killer body and spends a lot of time keeping up with her image rarely get through their celebrity lives without posing nude for something-or-other. The pressures to conform to this standard must be difficult to suppress because we have seen so many others (ESPECIALLY women) succumb to using sex and their bodies as attention getters. And it almost always works!
